Boston Dynamics and Hyundai Motor Group announced a major expansion of their partnership, with Hyundai committing to purchase tens of thousands of robots over the next few years. Hyundai Motor Group announced it will invest $21 billion in the U.S., including a $6 billion investment to drive innovation and expand strategic partnerships with U.S. companies.

The collaboration will see Hyundai leverage Boston Dynamics’ Spot and Atlas robots across its manufacturing facilities, enhancing industrial inspection, predictive maintenance, and advanced automation. Hyundai’s production expertise will also help scale Boston Dynamics into the world’s leading advanced mobile robot manufacturer.

Key Highlights:

Massive Robot Deployment: Hyundai plans widespread adoption of Boston Dynamics’ robots, starting with Spot for weld shop inspections at its new Georgia Metaplant.

AI & Humanoid Robotics Focus: The partnership will accelerate physical AI and humanoid robotics development, targeting the projected $38 billion humanoid market by 2035 (Goldman Sachs).

Strategic Ecosystem Growth: Hyundai’s commercial network will help establish Boston Dynamics’ Stretch and other robots in multi-industry applications, including joint offerings with Hyundai’s EVs and trucks.

Jaehoon Chang, Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chair, stated: “Physical AI and humanoid robots will transform our business. This collaboration will fast-track our leadership in robotics.”

Robert Playter, CEO of Boston Dynamics, added: “Hyundai’s commitment makes them our biggest customer. Together, we’ll unlock unprecedented opportunities in mobility manufacturing.”
