Universal Robots Increases Payload Capacity for UR20 and UR30 Models
Enhancing the strength of high-payload cobots will boost throughput and productivity for customers
Universal Robots has upgraded its UR20 and UR30 cobots to lift up to 25 kg and 35 kg respectively, offering enhanced productivity at no extra cost through a simple software update

Universal Robots, a leading company in collaborative robot (cobot) solutions from Denmark, has announced a payload capacity increase for its high-payload cobot models, the UR20 and UR30. The enhancement, available at no extra cost, allows the UR20 and UR30 to lift up to 25 kg and 35 kg respectively, including end-effector equipment, when operating in top lift position—a key advantage for palletizing and material-handling applications.
“In our constant pursuit of innovation, we test and improve our products rigorously,” says Tero Tolonen, Chief Product Officer at Universal Robots. “When we discover new ways to enhance capabilities, we want our partners and customers to benefit immediately. This update is a direct way we’re driving value by allowing businesses to increase productivity without additional investment.”
The payload upgrade can be unlocked easily through a software update to PolyScope version 5.19 or later, with no need for additional hardware. By the end of 2024, all new UR20 and UR30 cobots will come pre-equipped with the software to support the increased payload capacities, ensuring businesses receive the latest functionalities right from delivery.
